Ingrown toenail clinic

About the clinic

Ingrown toenails are painful and common, and often come with a worry surgery is required. The good news is that many ingrown toenails can be treated without surgery.

Conservative treatment is our podiatrist’s first option, which includes routine nail cutting to free up the nail edge, which is then cleaned and packed. We often prescribe this course of action, if it’s the first time you’ve had an ingrown nail, or if it is mild.

For more serious ingrown toenails, our preferred surgery intervention is called partial nail avulsion and chemical matrixectomy. Research proves it’s the most reliable procedure to reduce the risk of you getting another ingrown nail down the track.

This procedure is available in all our clinics, along with the peace of mind that we have performed hundreds of these surgeries on people of all ages.

What to expect

  • The procedure is done under local anaesthetic.
  • We surgically remove part of the nail using partial nail avulsion and chemical matrixectomy.
  • We apply a chemical to the tissue from where the nail grows – this stops the offending part from re-growing.
  • The surgery doesn’t leave a scar and the remainder of the nail stays in place.
  • You are left with a good cosmetic appearance – giving you confidence back.
